“Some say that the pomegranate was the real apple of Eve, fruit of the womb, I would eat my way into perdition to taste you.”

i often think about that split second where orpheus has turned around, the wash of relief, love, joy, love, love, love that he feels when he sees eurydice. there is darkness and doubt all around him, the ache of his feet, the feeling of defeat, and in his desperation borne of love he sees her. and for a split second, love takes over. the last thing eurydice sees is love etched into every corner of her husbands face before she is dragged back into death.
#yes i did just finish listening to#hadestown#but also#as a kid this myth drove me insane#he could’ve waited#but now i get it#he gifted her hope to last her eternity

it's not like they live on a mountain with other monkey citizens running around
Or also known as Oz trying to flirt (??) but it backfires on her.
set after BMW when Oz is living on Mount Huaguo, hence the hanfu and the neater hairdo
I think I'm also slowly getting the hang of drawing Sun Wukong without having to look at 81 reference images
#szynkART#if i was a fanfic writer part 1 would be the adventure of DO and becoming Sun Wukong#and part 2 of the story is Oz learning more about her ancestors that fled to “her” world and settled down and had a family#probably they ran away cause they were branded a traitor by the celestial court#so imagine the confusion when they see a girl splitting image of the traitor popping up helping the monkey#anyway. i wish i was a fanfic writer LMFAO#probably gonna try to write some one shots in the future#black myth wukong#sun wukong#sun wukong x oc#sun wukong x reader#monkey king#cepheus baskerville

the modern villainisation of demeter will never cease to enrage me bc it wasn’t ENOUGH to just take a story of a girl being torn from her home from everyone who loved her and dragged away to be forced into marriage and twist and corrupt it until it was a romance story about female empowerment that wasn’t ENOUGH they HAD to take the original hero of the story the mother who went to every length to find her daughter again to bring her home and demonise her character until she was this horrific overbearing unloving mother. overprotective controlling without love. they turn the story of her grief at her YOUNG daughter being torn from her without her knowledge into the story of a misunderstood bad boy and a horrible cruel mother who won’t give him a chance and i really find it sickening. it’s ironic, that the ever misogynist age of hellenistic greece, has a better grasp of how disgusting and horrifying this situation was that a modern, self proclaimed ‘feminist’ era.
#ovids version made me cry#imagine you’re just a nymph watching your friend torn away from you by the literal king of the dead#and despite knowing how powerless you are against him you still choose to stand up to him#to stand up for your friend#imagine being so torn apart by the grief of losing her you weep yourself to death#imagine turning that story into a good girl/bad boy romance#weird#anyway#the story of persephone is personal to me#bc i wish my mother loved me like that#demeter was a good mother#you all suck for portraying her as anything less#idc if you disagree#‘oh myth is open to interpretation and reinterpretation’#okay. well i don’t care.#there’s such thing as bad interpretations#making demeter the villain is a bad one#making hades a misunderstood protagonist is also a bad one

Imagine, if in two thousand years, everyone was obsessed with Omelas.
Alright, not everyone obviously. But you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't at least know its name. You were absolutely told the story as a child, might even have watched a movie or played a game about plucky kids rescuing the child of Omelas from their cell and taking down the city's corrupt priesthood. You definitely have vague memories of browsing the holo-channels as a kid on a sick day and watching a documentary about how the city fell, analyzing the texts of the historian Le Guin, and attempting to track down its "true" location.
There are whole societies dedicated to that question. Not just people on the Feed Boards, but like, actual archeologists and historians (that's how they describe themselves, at least) who literally head out to various moons and dwarf planets, doing all sort of complicated scans and digging up rock formations and old habitat ruins that they claim, based on ancient texts, to be a prime candidate for where Omelas was located.
It goes deeper than that, you realise later, if you dig deeper. There are entire belief systems based on Omelas. Many claim that Omelians were not humans at all, but actually advanced aliens or even gods, who granted humanity the first technology for space flight. There are political parties, some quite popular-- and powerful-- who claim descent from the Omelians, and who argue that descent makes them rightfully superior to all other races. These people rarely, if ever, bring up how the moral question at the story's heart about the Omelian's corruption. Omelians were wise and just and powerful, obviously, and that's why they should be in charge now.
This is what happened to Plato's story of Atlantis.
#atlantis#mythology#sort of#i would argue atlantis isn't even a myth in the traditional sense but it really has become one#anyway i was watching a video on the Nazi's beliefs in this stuff and it just struck me again how Wild it is#also thinking about how Anne Leckie was So Right in her Imperial Radch verse#about how almost every culture has segements arguing how Their planet is the birthplace of humanity

Love can be as deep as an ocean and as shallow as a puddle, it can be as hard as ice or slip away like smoke through your fingers, as calm or as overwhelming as the waves...
Here my take on Afrodite
#aphrodite#afrodite#greek mythology#ancient greece#greek myth retellings#I put a lot of thought on her#As she is more a titan than a godess to me. Since she came from the sea and foam of the Uranus balls on my take#Its also part lion as a refference for other love gods from different places that she is kinda all at once and I LOVE IT!

started out with the Destined One grabbing his Travel Companion and throwing her over his shoulder like a sack of potato before she could get hit.
Deciding that enough is enough she summons her rapier and joins the battle.
ughh I'm still working on her outfit design but I also really like the composition of this wip so maybe I will clean it up and color it??
I also learned that those wooden things are coffins, not chests. I imagine at some point the Destined One and his Travel Companion had to squeeze into a coffin to get across a big body of water or whatever. Tight fit but at least take got some power naps in.
#szynkART#too shy to fully openly talk about my OC but also her backstory is just all over the place anyway#so as usual just dropping some hints and previews here and there without elaborating too much lmfao#let's just say there is a reason her epiphet is The Bloodstained Constellation#cepheus baskerville#black myth wukong#sun wukong#sun wukong x oc#sun wukong x reader#monkey king#jttw

When I think about Gale and Mystra, I'm reminded of the Greek myth of the moon goddess who fell in love with a shepherd and asked Zeus to place him in an enchanted sleep, so that he would never change. So he would be beautiful and hers forever.
There are different versions of the myth, but this is the one I knew as a kid - and it always made me so fucking sad. And now I see why, because Selene loves Endymion - and her love takes his life from him. A god could not love Endymion as a mortal loves a mortal; she wants his presence to gaze on, to soak in, his body to hold. Perhaps he's a balm to her immortal existence; perhaps his beauty is an inspiration to her - but she does not want him, not all of him, not really. She doesn't want his sheep flock, the evenings where his fingers burn from the cold. She doesn't want his voice, or the lines and experience he'll gather as he ages. She doesn't want to live a life alongisde his.
Selene would say she loves Endymion, and perhaps, yes, Mystra would say she loved Gale. But how can a god love a mortal in a way that a mortal can recognise as love? You soak up his company, you laugh with him, you value his mind and his talent and his deftness with words. His presence is a spot of bright difference in your endless existence. But will you change with him? Will you be vulnerable with him? Will you look him in the eye, as an equal? Will you stroke his cat and put a blanket over his shoulder when he falls asleep reading, make soup for him when he's sick? Would you love him as a person, not a treasure? You can't.
Gale wanted to be loved with a devotion to match his own. Mystra wanted him to live in the enchanted sleep of being hers, something to smile at and hold but never, never to live beside. And she knew - she must have known - how unequal their desires were. She kept him anyway, until she didn't. Until he woke up.
A god's love ruins mortals.
#myth of endymion my beloved. it's a fucking tragedy. compels me though.#bg3#bg3 spoilers#gale dekarios#gale of waterdeep#mystra#(love that 'fuck mystra' was the first tag suggestion when I wrote her name)#pls forgive me for going on weird poetic ramblings on main
